Carolina Park Zoning Approved
For Immediate Release
November 4, 2003

Charleston County Council has voted to approve the zoning request for Carolina Park, a 1600-acre, master planned development that will bring mixed use residential, commercial, office and economic development to the area.

The November vote paved the way for developers to begin preparing the site for the infrastructure needed to support the 20-year buildout.

Carolina Park met with strong support from Charleston County Council. The Council held two public hearings, and subsequently approved both a development agreement and the zoning request by the developers.

The Development Agreement requires the Developer to adhere to specific standards and conditions and assures the long-term viability of the project.

Carolina Park will offer the area 437 acres of land earmarked for economic development.  Nearly 40% of the total land has been set aside for greenspace. Nearly 30 acres are reserved for municipal uses including post-secondary education, police-fire-EMS and a public school and library.  Carolina Park's development plans call for a self-imposed cap on both residential and commercial building in the first three years.
